Data Queries

How often should I submit data?

Data should be submitted as frequently as possible as this enables us to keep an up to date database. Part data can be submitted whilst you are waiting for the complete set of data. When you complete the data entry and export to PICANet the record will be updated. As soon as you make any changes to your database you should export them to PICANet.

How often will I recieve my validation report?

You will recieve your validation report once per month which will outline any anomolies or data that needs confirming with PICANet. Please respond as soon as you can to PICANet with the information asked for. Any changes you have made to your database will be corrected as soon as you export.

What happens if a parent / guardian / child does not want their personal details sent to PICANet?

Their record can be exported anonymised. See page 67 of the Data Collection Manual.

Who do I contact if I have problems with my software?

The PICANet software manual can be found here which contains full instructions on downloading and using the PICANet software, contact your unit IT department if its a local issue or email picanet@leeds.ac.uk.

Where can I get some more data collection forms (purple forms)?

These can be requested from picanet@leeds.ac.uk or by calling any member of the team on 0113 3438125

How can I get hold of some of the PICANet data?

Researchers, commissioners, clinicians and others can request anonymised data from PICANet by completing one of our Data or Information request forms and submitting it to PICANet. Data/Info requests. All the requests are listed in our annual report, on the website and fed back to the Clinical Advisory Group. In the future we will be developing software to enable each unit to produce bespoke reports on their own data. Data on all paediatric intensive care admissions over a three year period are also presented in our national report available here.

How do I attach the files and export my data to PICANet?

The software manual gives comprehensive details on how to export to PICANet or otherwise email picanet@leeds.ac.uk

Who can I call if I am stuck with a technical query?

Please call any member of the team on 0113 3438125 during office hours. There is always a member of the team available to help or you have a local issue, please call your unit IT department.
